Inspired by the fact that my partner had another child and left his full-time job to pursue a startup dream – AND by a report by the Ewing Marion Kauffman foundation on entrepreneurial activity from 1996-2013, I created a “response” infographic about the pain of “giving birth” to a startup.
If you want the hard data. You may need to wait longer.
This comprehensive report on the effects of age, gender, and startup capital on startup outcomes brought inconclusive results.
Have you found the perfect formula for a successful start-up? I haven’t, but there are some trends that I thought I’d share to help you navigate success in the first 3 years.
Having given real birth to 3 kids of my own, I can’t help but compare the emotional, strategic, euphoric and exhaustive investment of the startup industry to that of having and caring for a child. It’s a battle that requires grit, perseverance and vision.
On a positive note, that means anyone has a change to make it big!
Whether you are a man or women, a spender or a saver, an optimist or a pessimist – you have an equal shot of being successful. That is exciting….
But not before a bit of pain.
Starting a business has as many unknowns – as giving birth. It’s a true rollercoaster from being excited about the possibilities, to feeling the hard realities and then having an epiphany when you finally have clarity of goals and a solid routine.
Enjoy this pun on the struggles of “life on demand” and share with others that understand your pain… it might make you feel just a little bit better to know that there is a network of people following the same demonic path.
